We all need to be ‘life-long learners’, but learning something new can feel like a monumental task, especially at this time of year. Tackle a language, play an instrument, master a new software? Great in theory, but sounds exhausting… and where does one start?!
Hence today’s experiment: a chance to gently pump your learning muscles, while setting an immediately achievable ambition. Let’s get started, take some tiny steps and get our self-confidence soaring.
The Experiment
- Pick a skill that’s quick to learn but has long-term benefits. How about finally working out how to manually adjust the exposure on your phone camera? Or ‘crack’ a useful keyboard shortcut?
- Watch a quick tutorial online. (Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen a browser tab. Seriously, we had NO IDEA!)
- Practise immediately—2–3 repetitions should be fine.
- Schedule a few more reps tomorrow to lock it in!
WHY TRY IT
- Mastering one tiny thing a day rewires our brains for growth, reinforcing neural pathways that make learning and progress feel natural – getting us in the groove for bigger successes.
- Micro-skills offer instant rewards, boosting confidence and motivation.
- Every small ‘achieeeeeeve!’ triggers dopamine – your brain’s happy chemical.
MAKE IT STICK:
- Pass it on! Teach someone your new skill to cement the learning.
- Keep a list of skills you’ve mastered— a simple way to track your growth, and feel great about yourself.
- Commit to 10–15 minutes of learning daily—small efforts add up over time.
Every day’s a clean slate, so what do you want to learn today?
Today at TCX, we’re becoming Jedi Masters at making kick-ass paper planes (you never when it could come in handy!)
