No Willpower? Welcome to a fabulous 2025!

We may dream of having iron discipline and rock-hard resolution, but let’s face it – we’re all a bit rubbish. And January is the month that really rubs it in.

Whether you’re embarking on a grand self-improvement scheme, or still face-down on the couch, the start of the year can feel a bit bleak. So, what’s the answer?

Stop Failing, Start Experimenting

Humans love the idea of change, but not the reality. Rigid resolutions crumble, leaving guilt, shame, and (here at TCX) a lot of crumpled packets of onion rings.

But experiments? They invite curiosity, not pressure. You’re not COMMITING TO SUCCEED, simply trying something out. See what works, adapt as you go! Straight away it feels less like hard graft, more like (ssh, don’t say it,) fun!

  • Instead of “I’ll JOURNAL DAILY,” try, “Write for 5 mins about ONE thing that made me smile (Oh, onion rings, how I do love thee)
  • Instead of “I’LL GET FIT,” try: “I’ll treat myself to a 10min walk today”
  • Instead of “CLEAN EATING ONLY,” try: “one technicolour meal this week. (Dust off your satsumas, baby. Daddy’s bringing home the beetroot!)

This Jan, try some tiny experiments that’ll fit into your messy (marvellous!) life, and make things that bit brighter.

How to Start Your Own Experiments

  1. Choose One Tiny Thing: Pick something that feels light – and not daunting. Skip the doomscrolling for a gratitude moment, perhaps? Or scribble a note of appreciation to someone who’s brightened your return to work.
  2. Give It 24 Hours: Commit to trying it for just one day. If it sticks, extend it. If not, tweak or change.
  3. Track the Joy: Note what it brought you – a boost of energy? A flash of clarity? A calm sense of ‘job well done’?
  4. Celebrate the Wins: Even small wins deserve a moment of recognition. Dopamine is your friend here!

What Could You Try Today?

Getting started is always the hard part – so, we’ve started for you! Every day, click on a new door of our calendar to find a simple experiment that could make a BIG difference to your day.

Change doesn’t have to be grand, it just has to start. Have fun; refresh how you work, and pump up your joy this January!

Because at least you’re not at Dunder Mufflin…
