Be less Grinch

It’s easy to hold on to grudges (especially when you’re knackered!). But nursing grievances never made anyone feel better. Even a small act of forgiveness lowers stress and blood pressure – allowing you to embrace festivities with a lighter heart.
Try this experiment
- Think about someone you’ve recently had tension with (and not in a good way!).
- Safe in the knowledge you won’t send it, write a short ‘letter of forgiveness’ to them. Outline the cause for the beef; how you feel, and why you’re forgiving them.
- Read the letter out aloud (looking in a mirror if one is close to hand). Reflect on how letting go of the resentment makes you feel.
- If you’re feeling strong enough, consider taking the next step and reach out to them over the holiday season.
Why this experiment works
Forgiveness is the full mental health package: it reduces heart rate; alleviates anxiety and leads to greater life satisfaction. It might also be good for the person you’re forgiving…but do it for yourself!
