Supercharge your seasonal superpower!

If you’re anything like us, you’re already grinding to a seasonal stop. Holiday season beckons, and you’ve parked ‘personal growth’ for another year.
But keeping a sense of forward motion (even in tiny increments) is fundamental to staying super-positive over the ‘jolly season’. The trick to maintaining progress (without feeling overwhelmed) is to narrow your focus and pick ‘just one thing’ you want to get better at.
Try this experiment
Pick your personal growth focus – one ‘seasonal superpower’ you want to double down on, or develop.
Keep it small and specific: Want to stop talking OVER PEOPLE? Keen to ask more questions in meetings? Eager to give more positive feedback? Focus on the area you want to make progress around.
Public commitment: Yup, here’s the awkward bit! Write down what you’re going for, and tell friends and colleagues about it. This month, I’m going to getter better at listening and not interrupting. Ask them to give you feedback around how you’re doing. This allows them to be frank in their observations – and fulsome in their praise!
Why this works
Sharpening our own (and others’) selective attention, activates the brain’s reticular activating system (RAS). This tunes us up to spot opportunities; note progress, and give/ receive feedback around our point of focus. Narrowing our goals helps avoid decision fatigue and boosts motivation, making it easier to form new habits and see progress.
Publicly ‘own’ your struggle, and everyone can cheer you, celebrating small wins and picking you up when you stumble. Make a tiny, intentional shift to deliver a big payoff for your productivity and well-being this holiday season.
