LET GO OF THE OUTCOME

Harness the power of play

If you or your project team are attached to a specific solution or outcome, it becomes almost impossible to quiet the voices of doubt and judgement that kill new thinking.

We’re all victims of our own cognitive bias! To counter this, LET GO of your preconceptions. Let yourself play and explore alternative ways of thinking and acting.

Be wary of worrying about looking clever, pretending you have all the answers or becoming attached to one way of doing things (disaster is bound to ensue!). When people are relaxed, and focussed on the task at hand (rather than the desired outcome) they’ll perform better in the moment, and generate great results.

This is not to deny reality or ignore the constraints you’re working with, but simply allowing yourself to relax, have fun and explore alternatives.

Principle

Everyone has a different way of relaxing and letting go of the outcome. Lead by example and find an approach that works for you. Always ask yourself, ‘What will help the team let go of the outcome, be in the moment an d explore new thinking?’
